-Passing Through-

The first photo I shot for my Small Town Feature on Orderville, Utah was of this interesting fellow walking his bike into town in search of a motel room. You see, Orderville is a small town, but they do have a motel or two and it is the only town for mile in each direction on highway 89. This guy was so tired he couldn't ride anymore, he had been traveling from Phoenix Arizona on his way to Montana to get laser eye surgery. It's easy to forget sometimes how hard people have it in this world. But it's like Joe Dirt says, 'you've gotta keep on keep'n on.'

-Got Wood?-

While strolling down Main Street in Orderville aimlessly looking for a story, or something interesting to shoot, both plopped right into my lap. This woman, who introduced herself sarcastically as Jill Mormon (as in Jack and Jill Mormon) started to tell me her life story after I made a comment about the sticker in her truck's window in passing. She explained to me that her husband is a wood worker, and that it was her idea to add the accents to the sticker to give it a more real wood like look. Then things got interesting. She moved to Orderville 3 years ago, after living in Phoenix for many many years. She reached into her purse and pulled out a photo of her son, who is in the army, and said he was volunteering for service in Iraq. She teared up a little as she told me she didn't want him to go, and a snapped a quick photo. I don't know why she decided to tell me all of this, but I felt bad for my new friend who might loose her oldest son in this time of war.
